Cropping without breaking the animation
GIFs often store only the part of each frame that changed. Cropping those pieces directly is what leaves smears and half-drawn frames in some tools. This one rebuilds every full frame first, crops all of them to the same rectangle, and then encodes a fresh GIF with one palette for the whole animation.
Common crops
Square for profile pictures, Discord emoji and Slack emoji. Then use the Discord emoji resizer to fit the size limit.
16:9 for banners and video thumbnails.
Trim the edges of a screen recording to cut out toolbars and borders.
Questions
How do I crop an animated GIF?
Drop the GIF, drag on it to draw the area to keep (drag inside the box to move it), pick a shape like square if you need one, and press Make it. Every frame is cropped the same way and the animation is kept.
Can I crop a GIF to a square for a profile picture or emoji?
Yes. Choose "Square 1:1" and the box keeps that shape. Set a width too if you need an exact size like 128 px.
Does cropping lower the quality?
Cropping itself doesn’t. The GIF is then re-encoded with a quality guard, and the score is shown under the result.
