Discord emoji resizer

Turn any GIF, PNG, JPEG or WebP into a Discord emoji that uploads first time: 128×128, under 256 KB, animated or still. Runs in your browser.

Drop a GIF, PNG, APNG, JPEG or WebP

Output: 128×128, under 256 KB. Animated or still. Runs on your device; nothing is uploaded.

GIF can’t store soft edges; blending them into your chat background makes outlines smooth there.

How it fits your emoji under 256 KB

Animated emoji are where most uploads fail: a few seconds of GIF is easily several megabytes. The resizer first scales every frame to 128×128 with a sharp Lanczos filter, done with correct transparency so edges don’t get a dark outline. Then it searches for the smallest change that fits: fewer colours, gentler dithering, reusing pixels that didn’t change between frames, and only as a last resort dropping frames (keeping the total length the same). Each try is scored against your original, and you get the best one that fits.

Common upload problems

  • "Too large" error: the file is over 256 KB. Run it through the tool above.
  • Emoji looks blurry: the source was small and Discord scaled it up. Start from an image at least 128×128.
  • Animation doesn’t play: the file was saved as a still PNG or WebP. Use a GIF or APNG source; the tool keeps the animation.
  • Sticker instead of emoji? Stickers have different rules (APNG, exactly 320×320, 512 KB). Use the Discord sticker maker.

Questions

What is the Discord emoji size limit?

Custom emoji must be under 256 KB, in JPEG, PNG, GIF or WebP. Discord does not set exact dimensions; 128×128 is the usual choice because it stays sharp at every size Discord shows emoji.

Why does Discord say my emoji is too large when the file is small?

Apps disagree on whether a KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so a file your computer calls "255 KB" can be over the line. This tool keeps every file under 256,000 bytes, which passes under either reading. If a tiny file still fails, re-save it here: a broken or mislabelled file (for example a WebP renamed to .gif) is rewritten as a clean GIF or PNG.

Can I make an animated emoji?

Yes. Drop a GIF, APNG or animated sticker and you get an animated GIF under 256 KB.

How does it keep quality while shrinking?

It tries many encodings, from more colours to fewer, with smarter dithering and by reusing unchanged pixels between frames, and scores each against your original. You get the best-scoring file that fits, with the score shown.

Is my image uploaded?

No. Everything runs in your browser. The file never leaves your device.
