Why emotes go blurry, and how this avoids it
A 28×28 emote has 784 pixels, so the resizing filter decides how it reads in chat. Shrinking with a soft filter, or in one jump from a huge image, blurs fine lines. This tool resizes to each size separately with a sharp Lanczos filter in premultiplied alpha, so transparent edges don’t pick up a dark halo. Animated emotes then go through the same fit-to-limit search as our Discord tools, keeping the best-looking GIF under 512 KB.
Tips for readable emotes
- Design at 112×112 or larger with thick outlines; fine detail disappears at 28×28.
- Crop tight: empty space around the subject makes it smaller in chat.
- Check the 28×28 result above at its real size before uploading.
