How it gets under 200 KB
JPEG quality is searched from high to low until the file fits, so you get the highest quality under the limit, not a guess. If the picture is so large that even the lowest quality is too big, it is scaled down just enough, with a sharp filter. Transparent areas become white, since JPG has no transparency and forms expect a white background.
Drop your JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image. The size is already set to 200 KB; you get a JPG under that size, at the highest quality that fits.
Will the image be resized?
Only if it has to be. The tool first lowers JPEG quality step by step; if even the lowest quality is over 200 KB, it scales the image down just enough to fit.
Is 200 KB the same as 200000 bytes?
Here, yes, and the output stays under 200000 bytes. That’s the stricter reading, so it also passes forms that count 1 KB as 1,024 bytes.
Does it need exact pixel dimensions too?
Many forms also ask for a size in pixels or centimetres. Check the form’s instructions; resize first if needed, then compress here.
Are my photos uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser, which matters for ID documents and signatures.
